yes, you need them. Even if the roads are dry, which there is a storm due in any day now. If you fail to put them on, it's a $500 fine, if you fail to chain, spin out and block the road, it's a $1,000 fine. Tow bill starts at $500, you can rent them on Vail on only, IIRC it's a $100 comcheck, put them on at the 178 and they take them off at the 190.

Oh, but since your on 80 through Wyo., I believe it's a $750 fine if you don't have them.

Also, you'll get ordered out of rest areas/chain-up areas after 24-hours, or towed if you don't. No more "waiting-out" storms for days.

The funny thing is the east coast has gotten a lot more snow than we have. There's very little snow on Donner or the Siskiyous, not much on Snoqualomie, haven't been west of Denver in CO much this year so I can't say anything for that. There's very little snow on the mountains by my house in CDA. From a trucking standpoint we've kind of dodged a bullet this year here in the west.

    Never say "Never"......

Just because there hasn't been a whole lot of snow on Vail yet......Doesn't mean it can't happen...

Winter on Vail is from September to June.....

And not just Vail either....I have seen snow falling in the San Juans in July before....Didn't stick...But you never know....
