Actually, in all reality, this "concept" is still very accurate!

If you "can't walk on it" would constitute ICE....chains will not help one little bit in an ICE situation. Which is where I draw the line myself!

Personally...I enjoy a good run on the snow pack...taking 20 or so minutes to throw some iron is no big deal. It's the "nay-sayers" that won't, or are afraid to even try, to learn how to run on the white stuff that irritate me.

    Huh? :biggrin_2554:

That and mud are the only reasons I put chains on. I've lost count of how many times the road has been too slick to walk on, but throw on the iron and it's perfectly navigable.

heard that either bc or alberta--they check to see that you actually know how to chain up this year--now thats going to be rough--cause i am sure most flying carpets or camels dont require chaining--therefor no prior expirience

My company does not require throwing iron, and they do not provide them. We do not run into Colorado, or farther east than Illinois, Missouri, or Arkansas. However most of the roads we must use just in Kansas are 2 lane, and very poorly maintained. The reason is we're suppose to load to 85.5k, that means no Interstate highways.

Some of the highways, roadways I've been on these past two weeks, are hard enough to keep your truck on your side of the road, let alone on the road. Now put snow or ice on top of that, without chains. These highways/roads are some of the less prioritized for clearing snow or ice. I'm guessing I'll be sitting somewhere for a while. Oh and the only truck stops I've seen are ones that are 20 miles east of my house and one 6 miles west. The highways don't really have a shoulder to speak of, not many places to pull off. Going to be a real interesting winter for a newbie like me.

I hope it's a typo, but um, Colorado is west of Kansas, hence going east won't matter
