very first time I chained up, 3 am in a snow storm on the side of Wolf Creek, there was a spider bungee in the bag. It snapped into 4 pieces, I've never carried another one since. I carry 12 bungee's on my cat walk, 4 per side and 4 spares for whatever I need them for. Typically, I'll break 2 every winter.

hint...dont store your spider bungees in your side boxes. keep em up front in the cab with you so they stay warm. then they wont snap in half when you go to get them.

my trainer told me. he is a pretty wise fellow. ive learned a lot of tricks from him that put me ahead of the curve than most new drivers.

very thankful to have had a quality trainer and glad I paid attention to what he said and what he taught me.

    no kidding lol.

i just chained for the first time last Tuesday. it sucked because it was my first time. took me 70 minutes.

second time took me 39 minutes. i felt like a BOSS afterwards lol.

chaining aint that bad and it was windy and cold and wet too.
if conditions are bad enough...blah blah blah.

i feel more secure driving with the chains in a storm than i do without them. They are there for a reason. to give you traction and to keep you safe.

those who dont chain when they can are just wusses.

if your company policy dictates you dont ever chain then I understand that, but the rest that refuse because they say it aint safe, are too scared or just too lazy...ya'll need to suck it up driver or find a new career.

im a lady driver and ill chain up. ainr no thing!

if its freezing rain/sleet or the road is closed then my company says shut it down. otherwise we chain up and keep trucking.

Well now here is a thought. (And that is ALL it is, is a thought, seeing as how I've never used the spider bungees on a big truck.) If these things are going to snap when they get cold, what happens when you are trucking in below zero weather? Even if you chain up where it is warmer but move into colder weather, it seems to me like just the give and take of the chains could be enough to snap them.

As I said, I don't have a dog in this fight, and I have successfully used the spiders on a pick up truck. For a short time. But I just don't have the experience with them to know how they would work out.

Oh yeah, when I saw you quote blackw900 it startled me, until I looked at his post. He has been MIA for several years now, and I was hoping he was back. No such luck though. . .

Pretty much sums it up, nicely!

    Then, of course, we have:

Don't see where she was out of line anywhere, so here's your sign!

I've got spiders, and love them! It's hard enough to chain a carhauler with everything in the way, and I like the way the spiders work, applying equal tension to the perimeter. I don't (or at this point anyways, didn't,) chain often enough that I ever had any issues with them. Used them maybe 8 or 10 times over a couple years.

I told our sassy waitress this would be a cool tattoo:

She told me to go right on ahead and get it. Then I thought about it... my chances of getting lucky would be drastically reduced, and I already need all the help I can get! :biggrin_2556:

Couple more posts and we can declare another of the King of the Hijacker's threads hijacked!

Ah the good ol' days, before they mandated a 30 minute chain-up rule and you've got 90 trucks fighting for 40 spaces.
