A Trophy is different than Trophy points. . I don't recall ever seeing a Trophy handed out til yesterday.

Winter is still a ways off

A regular Donner run ..... that'll keep some one in shape in winter .... which can be 11 months a year ..... sorta like Canada ...... LOL.

I'm curious .... not critical ..... if someone like you runs big hills on a regular winter basis, what defines 'minimum' chains ?

    Thanks -

I would think it would just be 4 singles. that's California's minimum amount

    CA Chain requirements (PDF)

    Chain Requirements:
    • R1: Chains, traction devices or snow tires are required on the drive axle of all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles.
    • R2: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels.
(NOTE: Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas.)
    • R3: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles, no exceptions.

Donner doesnt get too bad. in the first two three years when we had real winters I was chaining up daily but Past two years I've barely had to chain up. Snow has been really lacking in the mountains it's pretty sad hah. But, minimum is one set of drive tires(out sides only) and one set of trailer axles (outside wheels only)

And maximum chains is all four tires on the drive axles and still only two on the trailer.

I get the feeling (and I am a little bit hurt BTW) that no one read through the links (one or the other) that came with the opening page. Not to mention the video that discusses exactly what the CA requirements are!:(

These are the requirements for 4 wheelers, the truck carries a little bit more. Such as:
R1: chains or traction devices required on single drive axle vehicles, and drag chains on any trailer.
R2: chains or traction devices required on one drive axle of multi-drive axle vehicles and drag chains on any trailer.
R3: chains or traction devices required on all vehicles including 4 wheel drive, and drag chains on any trailer.
** "drag chains" are single chains on a non-drive axle, can be staggered on different axles or same axle outside tires. ** [staggered means one side forward opposite side rear]
Uh oh....made me break out the RED PENCIL!
What you describe here (4 outside drive tires) is called "Modified Max". Maximum is one set of 3 railers on one drive axle and singles on the second drive axle. (two singles can be used in place of 3 railers)

CA began allowing "Modified Max" about 2008 or 2009. CA is the only State to require 2 drag chains on trailing units, all others that require drag chains allow for one single drag chain, usually applied to drivers side.
