I've seen these signs on I-5 (California) for years. Every time I drive by them, I'm like "huh? WTH did that just say" I'm a reasonably intelligent person. While I don't have a college education, I have graduated summa cu_m laude from the school of hard knocks, but this sign has always went right over my head driving by at speed. I guess if you lived and traveled those roads daily, you'd learn by process of elimination what it's trying to say.

So, I recently captured a photo of one of those stupid sign so I could study on it, but I'm still not entirely sure.

If any can interpret this sign, please post ...

Lawdy, I nearly had a heart attack to see this thread resurrected in early August.

My interpretation of the sign is "professional drivers please ignore this sign".

So, if it's flashing that's good? If not flashing it could be good, or could be bad? And I guess none of this has anything to do with truckers? If not, why don't I see a sign for them? (on I-5) Wait, I guess there's are message signs that are otherwise not lit. Okay, but I feel sorry for the 4-wheelers having to deal with this sign from hell.

I've got a headache and I feel stupider now than when I woke up this morning. I'll pick this up again sometime later

Single screw pulling a trlr must chain if the light is flashing next to it.
All the rest are ok to roll if they've got snow tires and are carrying chains.

    Lepton1 and otherhalftw Thank this.

It's a simple sign. When one is lit up that's the chain situation. 4x4 with snow tires with a light next to it means everyone else is chaining up and so on

    driverdriver and otherhalftw Thank this.

Just in case anyone is interested, Colorado has already had snow, TWICE. Monarch Pass and Pikes Peak, both in the last week. Winter is starting waken.
