On 80 (Donner), west bound, chain zone is basically from the Truckee scales over to the Applegate exit above Auburn....and the reverse for east bound. But the "chain zone" is "fluid"...depends on where the snow levels are at that particular time.
On I-5, chain zone is Dunsmuir to CA border....no chain zone south of Dunsmuir....not even on Grapevine or Tehachapi.AZS and TheRoadWarrior Thank this. -

It's just sooo much easier with wide singles. Chain all four drives with waaay wide single chains, and you're done with it!

I generally don't go to CO... My company has a no chaining policy but we must carry 3 sets of 2 chains each (total 6 chains).
