I usually just throw singles on the drives anyway....I've never been bothered for it.
The cops see you rollin' with iron and they usually don't look to see if it's singles or doubles.

With all of the idiots "parking" to wait it out, They have their hands full anyway. (babysitting)

It's very easy for them to spot a hand that knows what he's doing and seperate him from the idiots!

no no no, Colorado only allows cables on certain roads and certain conditions. Cables are prohibited except for drag use on US 160, US 550, US 50. On I-70 cables may be used on but only in addition to chains, ie; cables can be on one axle if they are used with regular chains on the other axle. Stevens, Trans Am, and someone else love cables, and you always see them laying a pile after they were thrown.

could be, but my understanding of the logic of WHP and Wydot, it's because too many drivers have tried to follow the Wyoming is a lawless place and we can do what we want mantra, and hence has led to many issues. Sherman was closed two winters ago for 16 hrs because UPS, YRC, OD and a few OTR's tried to create a giant jigsaw puzzle half way up by not chaining when the signs were lit up saying chains required, I think that was the final straw.

I chain mine all the way around, but you might want to tell CDOT about this... they don't seem to want to agree with you. Of course, CHP usually has their own ideas about how this works too!

Tire Cables - With only two exceptions, Colorado chain law rules do not permit tire cables as alternate traction devices.

The exceptions are: 1) tire cables with high strength steel cross member rollers 0.415" or greater in diameter, which can
be used on all commercial vehicles except single drive axle combinations; and 2) on a tandem power drive axle commercial
vehicle, where any type of cable can be used only if there are chains on the two outside tires of one of the power drive
axles and cables on two or more tires of the other power drive axle.

I know what the book says, it's kinda like the argument I've had with the folks from OOIDA about where Colo. says you have to carry chains. What the book says and what enforcement says/does are two totally different things.

Why didn't you go out to Fallon (US 50) then south on 95 through Hawthorne, then W on NV 360, US 6 into Bishop?

The mileage difference is only 46 miles (Sparks to Fontana)...and in 16 years, I can't remember chaining once to get over Montgomery Pass at the top of US 6. Nevada isn't so strict on chaining, and CalTrans doesn't monitor 6 like they do on 395 out of Bishop.

CA...if you use only cables...you must use the Maximum configuration....6 drives and 2 drags.

Intentional....getting a point set in stronger!

Like those ###### commercials with the phone number at the end, not once, not twice but three maybe four times!

It's a psychological thing...repeated enough, even bad information is accepted as good!:biggrin_25523:
