The Atlantic in Winter is a vicious sea. Generally in shipping there is a particular bow type known as the Atlantic Bow for winter seakeeping when it gets really bad.
95 is not too bad, but sometimes it's better to run through the woods and not be on it.
Chaining..... uggh!

Yeah that's true. But I avoid those routes in the winter.REO6205 Thanks this.

I don't blame you. I wish we could do the same thing.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
True story.... about 2 years ago now, my co driver and I were running through Ohio and it started to snow pretty consistently, but not severely enough to impact traffic flow much........
About 45 minutes later, we stopped for a safety(lights) check, bio break, and a snack. Since traffic was still not impacted, we decided to continue, yet reserved the right to reconsider if it got worse....... guess what? It got way worse......... within the next 60 minutes, we observed 7 collisions (3 involving commercial vehicles either across multiple lanes, or simply on their sides)..... that did us in. We called our office and told them to #### and listen to what we had to say about the conditions before saying anything.....
All this happened before anyone in authority made the call to at least add any sort of advisory, chain restrictions, or road closures....
That was a fun conversation. ... lol -
I hope all you guys that "park for a few hrs." aren't the lazy, self-centered, p.o.s. parking in the chain up area taking up spots so the rest of us have to chain up in the travel lane.
LoneCowboy, Oxbow, snowwy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Agreed, if I have to stop, it's at least gonna be at a rest stop away from anything resembling travel....TIMPTE 527 Thanks this.

What’s the 97 like from Weed to The Dalles? I’ve been running to Hermiston a lot and haven’t hit it in any weather.
I guess I could stay on the 5 and just hop on the 80 and avoid that route if weather looks bad. It’s only 100 miles more.
Thanks -
I have to chain up if I want to get up my driveway.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
It isn't bad, unless you run into an hours problem. Not many places to stop. Best to stop at Weed(Pilot), 70 miles further is Klamath Falls(also a Pilot). Just a bit before Klamath is a series of 90 degree turns that you do not want to take faster than 15 or so.... 70 miles further is Chemult(also a Pilot), then it's another 200 miles until the 84.....SteveScott and Oxbow Thank this. -
Sorry. I wasn’t clear. I’ve done the drive 10 times but it’s never snowed. What’s it like when it snows?
I really like it. I stopped in Moro once and looked at antique knitting supplies for my wife. There’s a couple of restaurants that I want to try as well if I ever get the hours.
