I carry but never use them here in the west. I check the weather and chain restrictions and wait them out. I can sit for a few hours, or chain up and drive 25 MPH for a few hours. I'd rather wait. If I ever drive in heavy winter conditions again, I'll invest in automatic chains. Just push a button and you're rolling. Used them for a year at a previous job. It's the only way to go.
