Right. I've put chains over 12' dia. tanks by the way. Got an old strap or two as a threader, chunk that over, then pull the chain over. But watch out! Takes 2 people. That got dang chain will slither down right on your head! LOL, don't ask me how I know.

What's a strap?
-
I thought it was the other way around. You mean tarps are not a certified tie down device for heavy objects?
-
It would take too much rope.

In most cases, if the load is metal, use chains, although you may have to put something between the chain and metal so it does not damage it unless of course it is rebar or steel plates that are used for the roadway during construction. Check with the shipper? Straps are good for a number of things but if you get into the habit of asking yourself this question. If my family was next or behind this load "do I feel safe that the load is secure enough to protect them from harm"? Simple question with a simple answer, if not, secure it better.

I hate slithering chains!
-
Ha ha ha ha ha! That's on if they are slithering under their own power (stored energy?). That's down right scarey!!!
