Any opinions on how Challenger motor freight is? I heard they pay low, but I'm just looking to build experience. I only have about 3 months of experience and I'm 20 years old. Thanks to my age its impossible to find any trucking job. Challenger is the only company I've contacted that's willing to take me on, not even Bison or TransX will even look at me. My father is also a truck driver for a small company but apparently their insurance company doesn't insure commercial drivers under 25 years of age. I've held my AZ license for about a year and I'm still struggling to find any steady work. Last company I worked for paid slave wages, I worked 3 months and they only paid me $300.

Should I just take Challenger to build experience?

If they're offering you a job, I would take it. Your age and lack of experience are big strikes against you. You can't drive in the U.S., so you'll get lots of Canadian experience. I don't image you will have a problem getting paid by Challenger.

Thanks for you reply, I turn 21 in about 3 weeks. Even finding a company that will take me for cross border is a huge pain in the you know what. It really sucks.

You could go and party for 3 weeks...

Challenger is a good entry level trucking company. Good place to start, and move on to higher paying shop elsewhere after you gain some experience.
What city are you close to? Cambridge I take it? If you're closer to Toronto or namely Alliston there's plenty of companies doing dry van auto parts work. The runs would likely be Chatham or Windsor as destinations and Alliston or Barrie on the other end. They also do the opposite with drivers living down my way around chatham/Windsor. Again same thing. Pay kind of low, but job is easy.

I've been at CMF as an O/O since 1986 and while they are far from perfect you could do far worse elsewhere. If your just starting out I would recommend them as a good starting point to get some experience and then move on if your not satisfied. As far as pay goes they aren't the best but also far from the worst.Boss notified everyone that pay increases will be in effect April 1st so we'll wait and see how far he opened his wallet.

I worked for Bison in the DFP program, and I currently pull TransX trailers working for a 3PL power only contractor. Out of the 3, I would probably take Challenger over Bison or TransX if going company. Stick it out until you have 2 years +, then look into a company like ERB/J&R Hall/TEAMS Transport etc etc.

Don't let any of the fancy marketing materials at Bison or TransX lure you away from Challenger before 2 years, Their both the same or worse. Best advice I can give, is don't take it personally, just know you are a number on a screen. So as long as the direct deposits are coming, you're getting the sleep you need, and they keep your truck moving/running, you will be fine.

I live in Toronto, Ontario. Pretty much the power house for trucking Jobs. But nobody looks at me without experience.
Thanks for the tip man, I appreciate it. I'm hoping it's worth it, I see bad reviews but also many good ones. I know for mega carriers I'm just another number
That's good to hear, I'm thinking Canadian mega carriers aren't as bad as the American ones? I've been hearing many trucking companies are increasing their pays starting April 1st. Thanks for the heads up on that.

How low is low? I have no idea what most companies pay. Their ads always state competitive wages..competitive to what? Or paid weekly when they really mean "paid weakly":)

I heard it's somewhere between 700-800 per week. My buddy does local for Canada cartage and makes $1400 per week. I'm not really expecting much as a new driver though.
