I have a friend who is in orientation for MCT in Sioux Falls Sd. They told him today that dot is trying to change the hos rules. He said they said something about trying to eliminate the 34 reset and changing drive time to 10 hours.. Anyone else heard anything about this?

Nope! But I do wish they would get rid of the 34 restart and allow you to break up your sleeper birth in more reasonable hours.
Wiseguywireless and LodiKen Thank this. -
I've heard oodles of rumors about that. That if EOBR's are mandated we will go back to the old "pre-2004" system where you can split your sleeper any way you want. Max driving time would 10 hours, 8 hours off duty to do another 10 etc just like it was before all the hubub started. Yeah and no 34 hour restart.

I like the 34 hr. If you don't like it, don't use it. But for those that use it, it's great.
The 34 is 24 hours + your regular 10hr reset. Otherwise, a 24hr break starting at 9pm would mean you're legal to drive again at 9pm the next night. Completely altering your sleep schedule is probably not the side effect wanted by those that instituted the 34hr reset.
But, for split sleeper, yes. That would make things a lot easier. Also, if they would simply eliminate the 14hr rule and require 10hrs to get a fresh 11. Just mandate no driving past your 12th hour of total on-duty (that way if you're lumping, watching, repairing, etc you still wouldn't be able to drive too late).
Of all the rules, the 14 gives me the most hassle on a day-to-day basis. The 11 or 10, hardly ever (and that's usually when I'm trying to get home). Even the 70 isn't a nuisance and does as it's intended. To keep your company (if you drive for one) from working you to the point of being unsafe on the road. -
So if I read you correctly you want to get rid of the 14 hour rule and replace it with a 12 hour rule? Isn't that essentially the same rule but shortened your day drastically? So if i was to spend 30 minutes pretipping and fueling in the morning then two and a half hours loading instead of being able to drive my full 11 now I can only drive 9. Sounds like you didn't really think that one through I cant see how if you can't figure out 14 hours you would be able to figure out 12. Just my opinion.LodiKen and outerspacehillbilly Thank this.

I agree on the 34 hour restart BS. If you play your cards right and never run your self outta hours in the first place, you can still run pretty hard and never ever have to worry about takin a mandatory restart.
-
There was talk about this about 2 years ago. The company I was at was worried about the change back to the 10 hour rule and loss of the 34 hour restart.
Nothing came from it.
I will look and see if I can find a link. -
not all drivers work 7 days a week. A lot of drivers start their gear jamming week on Monday AM and are finished by Friday PM.outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.

I could start my week on Sunday night, and be flat outta hours by Thursday. Leave my reset alone, I like to grab all my hours back at once. Some of us like to run hard enough to blow through our hours quick, grab a break (after working that hard, I feel I deserve a day or so off), and git right back at it.
Scarecrow03, AdamT2k, outerspacehillbilly and 2 others Thank this.
