Yeah, because I like working twenty hour days. Those were just wonderful. Nothing better than coming home on the weekend and sleeping for 15 hours straight because you've only had two hours sleep each night for the last six days, when you could be spending time with your kids.

now I'm new and still yet to drive OTR under these HOS, but what if they just got rid of the 70 hr rule?

then you'd still have a nice 10 hr break, and a max of 11hrs behind the wheel, and still have the 14 hr rule.

this is probably stupid but in my head this works lol

That way if your company wants to make more $$ off you there gonna have to speed up shippers and receivers.

    I can dream can't I? lol :biggrin_2559:

I guess I'm ahead of the curve then because I completely agree with your post with my measly 2 years experience. If a driver can't see how valuable that 34 is, then they just don't understand math all that well. Who doesn't like a day off anyways after running hard for a week?

It's like you said, it depends on the runs you get and how you're able to manage. Sometimes you just can't run 8.75 on 3&4 every single day. I can understand why drivers want the ability to stop the 14 hour clock from ticking though as that can be a pain sometimes. I can also see drivers taking advantage of that too though.

I never ran under the old system but I can see where it'd be a real PITA not having the ability to zero out after sitting a couple days at home or wherever. I never asked my dispatcher if I could take a 34 I just took them when it was beneficial to me to do so.

Sometimes he'd get pissed, but it's really to their advantage that we have it. Sure, it might cost them a run but I'm more concerned with being safe AND when the hours start getting slim, I like the reset because I don't have to worry about the DOT catching me on some 15 minute blunder I made 6 days ago.

It's mutually beneficial to both the driver and the company to have the ability to get that 70 back, it's just simple because it means you can turn more miles in the long run (when there's plenty of freight that is).

CRASH and PATT, two anti-trucking outfits funded by the railroads, would never allow that to happen. But yeah, it would make everyone's life easier and more productive. All it does is penalize the driver who doesn't go home once a week. Those of us that do aren't affected by the 70 hour rule.

Under the old system a couple of zeros on your recap didn't reset it, but it had the same effect.

I would like to see them get rid of the 70 hr rule.I like the current 11/14 its easy to keep up with and i feel like it keeps the company from pushing you to hard, pretty easy to see when you start at 0600 your done no later than 2000 no debates no arguments,be safe out there.

LOL!!!! You just dont know when to quit, do ya?? You (among others.....you know who you are) sure do like playin that "I'm older and wiser" card pretty often, huh...... I never really said it was stupid, just dont understand why we have to wait a full 34 hours to get our 70 back when probly 24 is enough.

You do if you run out of hours, genius........ But of course, theres something about my posts that you have a hard time comprehending.....

I never said the 34 hour restart was bad, just dont understand why we have to wait a full 34 hours.

I guess the only reason I feel that way is because Ive never had to take a mandatory restart .

    Whatever.......:biggrin_25513:

the 11/14/34 are good what i would like to see is the 70 go away or at least make it that line 4 does not count towards your 70
