I personally wouldn’t sweat needing a rebuild right away.
As long as the motor isn’t eating coolant or overheating and holding oil pressure I would run it.
Worst case roll in some new main and rod bearings.
My company Western Star was a Harrison glider with a Detroit factory rebuild in it with 275000.
It had blowby sometimes. Our company had 30 of them and our shop said don’t Sweat it. Some of them do it , just watch the oil
Never ever had to add oil.
One of my buddies at the company cracked a piston in his company truck at 250000 leaving the yard going down hill.
Detroit factory rebuild
Our garage was old school and very knowledgeable. Mechanic said sometimes Krap happens.Last edited: Jul 3, 2020

Wow some of y’all have a Very well thought out but very expensive system. When I put one on the road I change fluids look over everything then throw farm tags on and load heavy an run hard local for a month or so, any problems will show their head quick.

Big difference between breaking down cross country and losing a starter at the local feed lot.
Running a couple hundred miles a week is a big difference from running 2-3000 a week.
I worked on a farm and ran that duct taped baling wired krap. Young and dumb and 40 years ago before every other sign on the side of the road is advertising for someone to Sue a trucker.
There is enough risk and liability in this game with out having old faulty equipment that could be an accident or create an accident from being stranded broken down on the side of the road.
There is a few that get by on a Wing and a Prayer.Last edited: Jul 3, 2020

breaking down is breaking down it has to be fixed either way and running 1500 to 2k local is a hell of allot hard on a truck than 3k highway miles
