if oil change intervals like that were improving your engine life, I would expect you should be topping 2 million on the engine, because guys are out here running 100K plus regularly with bypass filtration, and taking engines well beyond 1 million miles. "Black" oil can be protecting just as well as your golden colored oil as long as it is clean and the base is good.

New engines have bypass filtration built in, and go 50k or more easily without changing, as long as your idle time is low.

The only problem I see with Schneider's maintenance schedule is the rest of the maintenance beyond oil changes. Things still need to be greased every 15k, regardless when you change your oil. This isn't a big deal for Schneider though, because that missed maintenance typically won't show it's damage until after they have traded the truck in.

alot of bigger fleets run 25,000 miles between oil changes have even worked on trucks that they change the filter at 20,000 miles and the drain plug gets pulled at 100,000 miles they call it a dry pm and when they get ride of the trucks at 350-450 it works for them

JB Hunt was sampling oil at 10K intervals back in the early 90's when I was there. Nothing for their trucks to go 50K between changes back then.

And when they get rid of the trucks at 350-450 k the motors are worn and tired prematurely- Let alone failing toi grease the top and bottom..

Let the next guy have it,right??

I HATE that kind of business model..You lose so much credibility in my book..

Detroit diesel actually warranties the engines for 50k mile oil changes..with that being said...I don't wait that long for my oil change....not a chance..

Do any of you all do your own greasing? I usually change oil every 25k, but would like to grease more often.
