Does anybody driving ever say they are tired. I bet most people just brush it off as a bad night sleep or it normal. How do you or anyone know how good they are sleeping ? That's the point of having some thing like a Neck size or BMI to even think someone might have sleep apnea.

That's why their are two test for sleep apnea. The first night is to see how good you sleep and if a person does stop breathing. If a person does not have it or is the normal. Then your done and you don't need anything. Your regular doctor can also check your blood oxygen levels and see if your in the correct range also. That can indicate how good your sleeping also.

Is it wrong for them to ask a person to take a sleep test if a person fits the criteria of having it be that person says they don't ? Why do people accept the high blood pressure limit of 140, that won't kill you. Maybe over time it will affect your body. So does sleep apnea if a person has it. I guess it comes down to if people want the government stepping in and saying they want proof you don't have sleep apnea. Just like they want proof of our blood pressure.

Let me be honest here, I only care about how much the sleep study costs if I'm the one paying for it. Drivers already can't afford anything and this is just another thing to keep you in debt to the system, a system designed to keep you down and in debt.

And you have the right to a second opinion, third opinion, and so on until you find a doctor that isn't getting kickbacks from a "sleep specialist". As long as you accurately fill out the medical history at each doctor (provide each with the exact same info), and answer any questions in the same manner (for example, if one asks "do you snore" and you say "loud & proud", don't say "I've never snored a night in my life" to the next doc that asks if you snore to try avoiding a sleep study...THAT will be construed as "doctor shopping"). If the doc doesn't ask, don't tell.

Bottom line, just because one doctor won't issue a 2-year card without a sleep study doesn't mean you can't try to find another doc who will certify you. Be consistent filling out forms and answering questions and you're perfectly fine seeing as many different doctors as you're willing to pay for until you get your certification.

Sleep apnea is in the brain, not in your neck.

But we certainly can't let a detail like that stand in the way of making money via ordered sleep studies based on increasingly irrelevant factors.

Surely you are not saying Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a mental condition......I must not be understanding your meaning.

No, not a mental condition in the sense of manic depression or something similar, but breathing is involuntary. The brain controls it.

Their are like 4 different kinds of sleep apnea. One can be the brain not telling your body to breath. That's also the real bad one to have. They have a sleep apnea machine for that and they can see that in a sleep lab. The simple sleep apnea is obstructed airway. That's were the big neck size come. It the inside of your air way gets lose

Yeah driver shortage then they can bring in their autonomous trucks that the government's trying so #### hard to get on the road 100 the government thought about this? With all these self-driving trucks that are supposedly going to join the workforce and now with these new Dot regulations the government veteran at ##### about the unemployment rate going up I know the government and these designers and taxpayers and handfuls of all other types of people rantin and Ravin about these self-driving vehicles and they say they look at the big picture but do they really look at the big picture I mean in the long run all this driving stuff I do not see how it's going to better a #### thing but maybe I'm just blind

I'm 6'5". My neck size is over 17.

Why on earth would a chart such as BMI with the scientific validity of a kindergartner's art project and a neck measurement that is uniform across size, age, and gender (!) determine people's driving ability?

I think Shakespeare got it wrong. Instead of "first, shoot the lawyers", he should have written: " first, shoot the bureaucrats".
