LadyK, the 3 states i deal with in regards to training require, straight back, sight side parallel, blind side parallel, alley dock......(4 maneuvers)....Mass tests on a "lane change" which is "incorporated" into the straight back
then the states test for the brake test, and pre-trip then the road test....
some states (which ones, i am NOT sure), DO NOT test all those i have mentioned.... the DOT has 3 tiers of test........the states I DEAL WITH, are at "level 3" testing.....some states test at Tier 2, some at Tier 1......
number 3 being the HIGHEST Tier, pretty much tells anyone what Tier 1 testing is..........although i may not be able to prove this right now, i think Florida is (or was) Tier 1..........at "one time" a Florida CDL was NOT easy to transfer over to any other state CDL, as the testing requirements were so low.....in MY state, a Florida CDL was rejected when someone wanted to transfer over, and that driver HAD TO DO ALL THE TESTS....!!!! written, road, and skills....!!!!!
it's a way the DOT wants to ensure EVERYONE, and EVERY STATE, is on "the same page"......no more inadequate licensing procedures....
Changes in the practical DOT testing...
