Today's trucking in my opinion is set up for drivers toake just enough money they can't afford to quit to do anything else.
That's the best way to keep drivers.....scottied67, Vilhiem and PoleCrusher Thank this. -
That's the way my old company was. To be more specific though, I worked retail. One would think working as a medical professional and I pharmacy and having seven years seniority you would earn more than $11.50 an hour.
Nope. It's why I'm no longer working as a medical professional in the pharmacy. The sad part, I really really enjoyed that job.
I've already done the math. If Schneider changes their policy and QUALCOMM practices to wear when I push the brakes in my clock starts it's going to cost me roughly $15 a day.
I'm not logging illegally, but the time it takes me to get inside the guard gate, drive to the back of the JCP compound, get my bills, and go find my trailer can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Plus the pretrip on the trailer and time it takes to get out of the guard gate. From start to finish that's one hour I could be driving.
Some of the loads we have to do would be much more difficult to do if they made that kind of change. On the positive side, it would mean that some of the tighter loads my DBL likes to put us on we can say no to and not just look lazy.
For those who don't know, we park just outside the JCPenney compound where we pick up our bills and trailers. It's not even a quarter mile to the guard shack from where we are required to park. My pretrip is done on just the truck before my truck ever moves every day. No exceptions even if I am in a rush.Last edited: Aug 11, 2015

From what it sounds like reading all these post SNI is trying to cover there butts so if that law about all hours on line 4 have to be compensated they will just shorten up your drive time to make up for your 15 30 15. And what ever time at shipper and reciever and fueling. Just my 2 cents.
Vilhiem Thanks this. -
Alright folks... Seems I wasn't completely wrong about this.
There may be a grain of truth to it being something Omnitracs is doing and that it isn't sni's choice.
...but if you didn't see this coming at all... Please, raise your hand at this time.
On a positive note... It's addressed to company drivers. So maybe you lease/owner-OP's are safe?91B20H8 Thanks this. -

Why can't you do the 5 hour then rolling to the truck stop to finish? That's just splitting your sleeper. No?Vilhiem Thanks this.
-
SNI doesn't allow split logging.PXI Incorporated Thanks this.
-
As do I... If the company making the software is implementing this, then it would apply to all drivers across all fleets. Not just us.
SNI doesn't want anyone splitting their time... In addition, 5 hours wouldn't do anything but waste time.
You can't do a 5/5 split, it's now dot required that you can only do a 8/2. (You can do an 8/5, but you must spend at least 8hours in the sleeper and two hours on duty.)PXI Incorporated Thanks this. -
WTF soooooooooo if I log "on duty" for a drop and hook will it switch me to driving once I start pulling away from a trailer?
yeah that makes sense.
