I'm an IC. I used to get that choice. Was told by Regulatory to log out of unit when I put truck in shop so if they do a road test it wouldn't count against me. That worked for awhile but the last 4 times I did that, it didn't ask to accept it or not. It updated my logs and assigned the time to me. Had to call Regulatory about it and then they call ICA to verify. Well, if I'm on hometime and put my truck in the shop, I don't call my ICA. It's none of their business what I do on my personal time. So now, I use line 5.Vilhiem Thanks this.

Driving time means all time spent at the driving controls of a commercial motor vehicle in operation.
I have yet to ever find a reg under fmcsa that states you can drive for 5 minutes or 2 miles or under 25 mph before you have to record driving time.
This is and always was incorrect and the DOT probably stepped in and made the changes to adhere to the actual law.
When the ELD rules come to pass, it will be moot. All movement will be driving.gentleroger, freightwipper and jakecat22 Thank this. -

That's why they are putting shrink tubing around the cable ends so you can't disconnect them from the big black box especially the one that detects movement.

Then either your unit is broke and needs replaced, or they put different units in IC trucks. I have never seen a truck, that after logging in, it did not ask if I wanted to assign the unassigned time to myself. Ever.
-
Like I said, in the beginning mine did ask. But after one of the updates it quit asking and just does.
-
Then I would suggest getting it fixed, because it is broke. I use different drivers trucks all the time, especially around the yard, the shop does the same, if it assigned that time to the driver the truck was assigned to they would be screwed. Like I said, yours is not working as intended, call IT, get a work order, and have it fixed, it may be as simple as having a new update sent to the unit.

I know that regulation WHERE is the one that says the software needs to be updated.
On paper logs you log in 15 minute increments. Which is still legal and the only way to do it on paper. -
I believe on IC trucks that isn't an option because we have line 5.
Mine doesn't ask me either but then again no one uses my truck other than me.
