Hello all. I am just introducing myself. I am 46 years old and am going to change careers. I have been at the same company for the last 26 years and it is time for a change. The kids are grown. It is just the wife and me now. I don't have any dreams of making tons of money. I also know that I will be gone for long periods of time. Not much different than now. I will hopefully be starting school in a couple of weeks in Alabama. So any advice, warnings or whatever will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum:) I did not start OTR till the ripe ol' age of 44. I do wish in retrospect though I would have known about this forum. Advice? Read and read some more here on the topics concerning yourself and ask questions.Of course you will receive conflicting answers but I trust you will make intelligent decisions. Good Luck.!! :)

    Welcome to the party!

Biggest thing is to just pay attention at school and remember that the recruiters for the schools and companies are worse than military recruiters! :biggrin_2559:

Thanks for the info. I know going in it will be tough. I have been reading this forum for about 8 months. I have a good idea of what I am getting into by what others have been through. I am looking forward to this change in my life. I have just gotten fed up with going to the same place day after day. My mother drives a tanker so I have got some good advice from her as well. Just keep the advice coming. I really do appreciate all the help that I get. I will take it to heart and use it. Y'all have been there done that. Thanks again for everything. Be safe.

I know a guy who retired from Army as LtCol(sp), went into corporate world and was let go for downsizing. He lives in very upscale neighborhood. No one would hire him; overqualified. He went into OTR trucking and says he's never had more job satisfaction than now.
