Wally I may be outta place by saying this since I don't know what your pulling anymore, but I would just keep the slider. But if you do have to swap I would get the trailer your gonna pull and load it legal and set your slider to the point where your right on the money for 12,000 and then mark it or take a measurement from a fixed point. Then go and swap to the fixed fifth wheel...thats the best I can say.

Most of ours are fixed, if you pulling a spread axle trailer you never slide it anyway.

I haul tankers. We don't slide ours EVER. Unless of course we want tickets for not being bridged right.

Well most of ours are set ahead of center by at least 4 inches. Another is almost all the way up to the front drive axle. The one I drive is a slider and is as far forward as I can go without the frame hitting on my flat with an 18in pin. If I was pulling a tandem axle van I'd want the slider. But like I said most our trailers are spreads so scaling out isn't an issue.

Both ours are fixed (T-600, T-800), they are set so the kingpin is just about directly over the back edge of the rim on the front drive axle. The 800 was that way when we got it, it used to pull refers, seems to work fine with our hoppers too.

On occasion I have to pull a doubles set...so they set my 5th all the way back...it really sucks with the 53 vans, as the steer axle is never over 11,400 lbs...a bit soft in steering but I tend to have shippers load me heavier in the front, which gives me the advantage of having more options with the tandems (not spread of course).
