Do they re-cap super singles ?

I blew so many recaps , I started using virgin tires on my tractor , I was pulling a company trailer , but the downtime with blown recaps negates the savings

Especially when you factor in the money you get back for selling your virgin casing to the recapping place .

We tried super singles on our bottom dumps. They usually work by the ton and we liked the idea of the weight saving. Things were fine until we blew a tire on the road. The cost of a new tire, a new wheel, and the delay time involved in getting the tire swapped out completely cancelled any savings for about the next year.
Anybody want to buy a couple of sets of super single wheels and tires?

I have recaps on all but the front axle.

    3 axles plus drop.

    Side dumps use them.
    I believe loves does too.

Unless you drive in rocks. You're probably just wasting your money.
It's nice not having to pull rocks that get stuck in duals.

They do seem to hold up better then duals. And I haul 100k+.

    Worthless on snow and ice.
Not while rolling but once you stop.
And if you spin em you're toast.

Also check with your wheel and axle manufacturer.
We had several bearing failures/ wheel separations while rolling down the road.
Company was forced to replace all wheel bearings and is probably still in litigation.
Something about weight concentration of dual wheels vs single wheel but for all we know could just have been a faulty run of bearings.

I ran super singles. Not huge problems. With xdn2 I got good mileage with them. I went to Yokos lost more than .5 mpg. Now I have duals and I caught a bolt yesterday. If I caught it with 25 psi air in it like I did, it would have been a road call. Or it would have deflated quicker since all the weight is on one tire? The TA cost me $75 for the patch, let's see if it works. I got loaded with 32k on the deck then drove 14 miles and got tire fixed.

Just my opinion from never running or driving super singles but running my own truck for several years now. There are a few really expensive things folks talk about changing on their trucks that doesn't make financial sense for a small or one truck operation.

If the truck did not come with these things it seems like a big waste of money to even consider them. In other words you'll never recoup the cost.

    1. Adding an APU from one of the big sellers. If it didn't come with one I wouldn't spend 14k on one on a used truck. Only worth it if spec'd on a new truck and benefited from day one. Cheaper ways to do it nowadays.
    2. Swapping to or from super singles. Tires/wheels and the money to change them is expensive (which people don't talk about much but it's a big cost if you don't do it yourself).
    3. Swapping to disc brakes on a drum brake truck/trailer.
    4. Swapping from manual to auto trans or the opposite.

In any of these scanarios I'd just swap trucks.

I would never just change. I am thinking about changing when my Drives are gonna be replaced. Not sure I want to even do it but considering it as an option.

Almost lost a dual tire the other day. Somehow the inside tire stem came loose and lowered the PSI and about ruined my tire. Luckily I caught it in time and do not have to replace it. I have TPS on the tires but the inside tires are ruining the sensors and making it harder to keep an eye on them. This is one of the reasons I am considering changing.

The tires will last for this summer and maybe into next year. So making some plans if gonna change them. I am not ruling out keeping the same set up either and have looked into changing TPS system as well.
