I totally understand where your coming from. But because some silly reason I'm unable to do that. Only way to get back to what I love is me having own authority and working for me. I ask about freight lanes etc. for another way when I don't have freight from my direct shippers I have lined up. As a company driver for years I never cared or paid attention to that. Now it's another story for sure.

We have a 78 and 84 Mack R on the farm. They in part contributed to me starting my business (so I didn't have to drive them any more). It amazes me that drivers went cross country in those.
FLATBED Thanks this. -
Our old R MODEL is kept around to remind us where we came from ( besides my 8 year old grandson claimed it for when he starts driving ) , its in great shape and saved the bacon so to speak 1 more time , cannot always have the new trucks sitting in the yard. AS for going across country I loved it but then I started out in a 1966 B MODEL

Gitrdun, you have a reefer right? I'd suggest you concentrate of fresh products. The time sensitive stuff, not not frozen boss meals that can sit in a warehouse for a month. Go for the loads that have to deliver on time, every time, or they spoil. Produce season is in full swing. You need to get out there. Put your boots on the ground at every packing shed from homestead to plant city. Shake some hands, and you will get loads. Same thing with fresh flowers, to late for Easter but mothers day is right around the corner, and memorial day follows a couple weeks later. This is prime money making season for you.

I'm trying like heck. I'm constantly on phone with insurance, volvo, trailer co.,reefer co.Cpa. Not happening as fast as I like. I'm looking at end of June by looks of things. Cause truck and trailer on back order and all the permits etc. funny you said those places cause I already have direct shippers in those places cause my father runs a farm locally send their tied in to those other farms down south and in PC. Thanks for info. Still those rates in Florida stink but it gets me out.BigBadBill and 281ric Thank this.

you need to study quite a bit more, from a brutally honest standpoint, you are going to have a tough time starting out. knowing what stellar service should be very clear. and wanting to deliver later in the day you should lean more to flats than reeefers, reefers tend to have crazy apt times.281ric and BigBadBill Thank this.

so what you are saying is you have something on the record where ya cant get hired on and running your own authority is the only option.

That isn't always the case. I couldn't lease when I started because I had a contract to haul corn and beans during harvest. Over the years I have learned there are lots of reasons outside of blemishes that keep people from leasing. And now it seems it is harder to get insurance that is affordable if you have issues vs. leasing to a carrier that is self insured.
