You can get $2.80+ with van into TX, $3.50 flat. My direct stuff I qoute RT miles with agreement if I can get something coming out better than $1.50/mile I will discount the rate.

    SHC Thanks this.

You're hauling the wrong stuff or you are too picky. I don't know of a lane we have in that area that one would call "cheap a$#."

Money is in short haul and specialized freight.....there are too many van trailers running around to compete with these Russians/Polish immagrants here in Chicago. 2 brothers buy a beat-up Volvo, run it for 3 years at $1.50 mile and go back to EU with more money than they know what to do with becuase they didn't pay taxes and they can't get work over there........ i don't blame them tho, find the loop holes and use it to your advantage, just like the guys here that went to Iraq to drive ;)

agreed it is cheap out of texas, i just came out of Laredo, took 2 days to get 1.50 a mile, however using decision tools on my load board i already knew it would be cheap, there were 7500 flatbed loads going in and 1100 coming out, so you just gotta make sure you get paid enough going in to make it worthwhile, if you want consistent good money, stay in the midwest, oh, in, il, mi, wi and down to ar,tn......also flatbed is much better than van in most cases, no lumpers, quick load/unload, ill never go back to van!!! although never say never :)
