You will see different brokers do this. CHR isn't bad about this. BUT I think they teach this as a way to do business at TQL.Wings2Wheels Thanks this.

One flatbed load I saw listed this way varied in overall trip length from 325 to 415 miles, depending on which city pairs you looked at.
Weight? 49,000 pounds.
It was during the early part of January when things were slow...I think I walked away from the computer and sat in front of the fireplace. It was more productive than calling on that load.RedForeman Thanks this. -
When it gets slow TQL will post loads from a location I do a fair amount from. They had it posted in 5 different cities, non of them the actual city, and a couple where over 90 miles away.
When my wife asked why was told people don't know the little town it comes out of. Psssst - like we all aren't using a radius search. More likely that when we see the weight and town we know what it is and how well it pays.LSAgentOZR, FREEBRD, Working Class Patriot and 2 others Thank this. -
TQL had a load posted last week out of Kansas city,Mo the load picked up 141 miles north in auburn,NE at a wind mill farm was a high cube conex box paying $2 a mile going to Houston when I said no it don't pay $2 a mile he said what you mean I said that makes it $1.70 a mile for some reason they think 140 miles ant ####BigBadBill Thanks this.

And let us not forget, if we look at rate index on ITS or other sources, a city 50 miles away can have a much lower index. In my example above the index is almost $1/mile higher for the actual city compared to 2 of the distant cities they posted. I am sure that plays into more than anything else.

That's friggin' pathetic...

Its pathetic, but i have seen all brokers do it. Mercer, Landstar, CHR and TQL is the worst for doing this. I wonder how many book a load thinking it picks up in the city listed at a rate they can work with to only get the confirmation and see a diffrent pick up city with more miles that lowers there rate to unworkable. One of the hot spot for doing this around me is ME. They will list the load as picking up in Portland Me or Bangor ME when in fact it picks up 50 or so miles away.

we should report the brokers that are doing these. We pay to use these load boards and brokers are using them to their advantage with their tricks to make us waste time and money. I think that load boards should require all loads being posted to have the rates on them. Also we should have the option to flag loads that are posted incorrectly or re posted in different cities with wrong millage etc.
bbblotliz Thanks this. -
Certain brokers are like well no one else has a load so lets check this one.
TQL is one of them I think of like that. First question I ask is where does it really pick up at? If I get to question two it's is this a double brokered load?
I generally don't get past the first quetion with them.
The rest aren't near as bad and CHR is probably the best at not having "fake cities" listed. CHR will just use the ole "short miles" I generally get by that by asking them to really look at the map.
I do have agents I won't fool with at all! I wouldn't haul a load for them if they was giving away gold bars.
I had a load another carrier refered me on when I heard the voice at other end, I said "i don't fool with you" and hung up.
I feel like if I patronize brokers that have tried to cheat me before I'm helping them stay in business and thats the last thing I want to do...
