Unless I'm missing something here thats $2.49 a mile. Whats the problem? I thought you were trying to get home for some undercover mob deal? Seriously, if you can't make any money with that load then you might want to think about selling out. I bet there is plenty of van guys that would be happy with that.

I don't know who's truck your driving, but running over to Cummberland, MD has some really hard pulling on 68. 25 mph up hill for miles and miles. Some of the worse mountains on the east coast.

Just because a broker quotes a rate does not mean that is all they are willing to pay. Carriers need to do a better job of negotiating. That doesn't mean hearing a rate, and then hanging up the phone. Learn to negotiate better, and you will get better rates.

For example, do you go to a car salesman and say "I will pay whatever you quote me." No. Common sense says you should start at a low offer so you have room to negotiate. Brokers are in business too. They have to work with what the shipper is willing to pay. Sometimes, brokers breakeven or even take losses (sometimes heavy losses) to service their customers.

The customers are going to pay the broker/carrier the lowest rate possible to move the freight. The customers are the ones driving the market rates downward, not the brokers.

p.s. The shipper is not always the customer. Many times, the receiver is the actual customer.

$2.30 per mile or they are making your money. Using your truck while you pay all the bills. Everyone needs to demand it.
