I would recommend waiting this out.
First the date for compliance is a way out,
second all the legal actions are still working through the system. This may have some impact on the actual compliance date, or may make it moot.
Why spend the money now.
Also the list of devices approved is a bit small, as time goes on, the list will get longer.
If and when it comes to meeting compliance, the companies that have approved devices will be planning on a rush of sales, so they should have stock to meet the demand.

They do have a box that connects to the ECM. Actually two, one is basic, the other more features. Both units are currently with FMCSA/DOT for compliance testing. Expecting approval soon. -
@Bdog be carefull in which Elog you buy.
Ask how it is connected.
If it uses the CAN lines, then get a good unit.(for CAN use i would go with VDO)
A bad one can and will mess up your ECM. -
The date is December 2017. I think the middle of the month.
And even guys with one truck must have them. Every truck 2000 or newer needs one. -
Maybe wait until there are some more choices.
Competition is a good thing.
Is there a list of approved devices someplace?
Seems like it may be incomplete.

I think as long as it's hooked to ECM it's cool.
