Because I don't have a problem with the current hours of service, minus the 30 minute break. If I was going to concentrate my efforts on anything it would be to remove that. If I really wanted to press it would suggest a change to make things simpler and only have 2 duty status' on duty and off duty.

I was in an accident last month and they did not look at my logs. Do you think that is just in case of injury?
-
Depends upon the nature of the accident, just because they didn't ask for your logs at the time doesn't mean that a lawyer wont ask for them in the event of a law suit. In that case DOT would be the least of your worries.

As long as the police report backs me up I can't be concerned - sooner or later an accident is inevitable.
I am considering getting on board cameras though - anyone here use those? -
For fender benders I doubt many truckers will have their logbook reviewed. If there is an injury I would wager that your logbook will be reviewed and verified with independent investigation. If the LEO's don't do the job then you can rest assured that the plaintiff's attorney will be hiring an investigator to verify whether your logbooks are cooked. Finding a cooked logbook is like hitting the jackpot for them.

I don't consider accidents inevitable. There's plenty of drivers in the million mile club that seem to avoid accidents.
In the event of an accident the police report is simply your first hurdle if there is an injury. Count on an intensive follow up investigation from the private investigator hired by the plaintiff's attorney.DsquareD Thanks this.
