It's a display error, the unit doesn't show seconds but it records by the second. So it you stop at 8:00:34 and start driving at 8:30:02 the you only have a 29 minute 28 second break. That's pretty retarded, so in that regard I may concede that it's a programming error, but I tend to think of it as a display error.
I should also say the display shows 30 minutes at that time.
You would know much better than me 25(2)+2 --but the 30 minute rule is the only "Rule" i can see as a good idea -- it is one way to maybe get the super truckers off their seat and get some circulation flowing again -cause i figure and have heard that's a big problem with the older drivers (lack of circulation in their legs which causes problems --I dunno?
The 34 hour and 2 periods rule but only once a week makes no sense.
I seldom bump the 30 minute rule, only occasionally do I get far enough for it to be a factor. Where it really bites is being half an hour or even a few minutes short of getting somewhere to load or unload, and being able to take a break, then. FCFS places where if you had continued you would be at the head of the line instead of several or more back in the line, because of stopping for that break, and the fuel and time used to get going again, the 30 minute rule is hated by many experienced short haul(read regional) drivers. -
I agree with that assessment, and you do know the system well, better than most, IMO. So meanwhile, we have these people sitting in the road, and driving slowly, and stopping so as to not trip the driveline. I have seen trucks sitting at the fuel island for that half hour break, too. I know because I moved off after fueling and timed them from out of the way. I agree that many of them pick a hard one to get into to inconvenience as few as possible, but I could get into that spot just as well with my regional tractor as they could with their large car.

OH absolutely -now i get it and see your point, Ok now i have nothing good to say about that either (30 min).
25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
The Hours of service were put in place many, many years ago to protect drivers. Now it's a protect the motoring public. The whole thing has turned it a government overreach and over regulating joke. When will there be a law to protect us from the Goverment?

Grab your musket old timer --i am with you ! It looks like its just you and me!:smt067

Problem here is that there were even trucking interests that wanted this and pushed for it as well.
-
Yep its actually the trucking companies that are pushing it, as mentioned in another thread, but thats not all -you still have a lot of drivers agreeing with such rules --even the unreasonable ones.
-
i think some company's pushed the 14 hour rule, that way it forces you to work.you tell me when it needs to be there, ill be there.but ill sleep when i feel the need no matter what my book says.we didnt need a 30 minute rule cuz we could stop when we wanted, well that makes no sense.....stop when you want, for lunch,a nap whatever

As I understand it, the hard 14 was put in place because of issues with enforcement, they didn't like split breaks, which confused them, and many felt allowed easy falsification, so they reduced them in increments, first with lengthening the break from 8 to 10 hours, and then making only breaks of from 8 hours to less than 10 hours stop the clock.
The idea was to get everyone on a regular schedule, with a regular circadian cycle the desired result for them, even though schedules get changed all of the time in the real world.
Some runs, I can leave at 0300 and make it to the first delivery on time, others, I have to leave by 1000 to be at a more distant first delivery a couple of hours earlier. The 14 doesn't run out on me very often, before I get to the last stop for the day, but it could, more often, though, receivers will quit receiving before I can get there with too many stops planned and too many delays unplanned.SheepDog Thanks this.
