Which way is more accurate to check TDC on cylinder No 1:

    1. Remove injector 1 and put a dial indicator in the hole.

    OR

    2. Do not remove injector No1, but rotate the engine by hand to get the No. 1 piston at TDC. Do this by installing the crankshaft
timing pin J 45947 into its bracket and the barring engine over by hand until the timing pin
drops into the locating hole in the crankshaft, the engine is now at TDC on cylinder No.1

Ok, I agree, but just installed new injector in cylinder No1. Now if removed, I have to change the O-rings and run the overhead again.

Is No 2 method so bad or what?

I am trying to check the cam timing. Cyl No 1 at TDC then I will measure the Injector Cam Roller Lift at TDC.

    Here is the spec.

The truck runs not at full power on hills. After replacing: injectors, vpod, fuel return line valve/regulator, fuel pump, the turbo is good - motor is getting up to 40 psi. The last ting is timing.

Did you check air p.s.i. output to vpod? The regulator valve is on top of driver side air tank, has 2 yellow lines. The smaller one is the line that supplies air to vpod. Part# GTD223455V at Freightliner. It is a $25 part and takes about 20 min. to swap if that ends up being your problem.

Why check the vpod, if I am getting up to 40 psi boost?
