What's a way I can see how much horse power the truck has the guy I bought it off says it had a little over 500 hp but I called kenworth they told me it came with 435 and I know those are a lot of money to turn up... It has a cat 3406e. I just want to make sure what I think it had is more then accurate... Especially if I am putting money in the truck...

dyno test is the only way. tells you what the truck is putting to the ground.

A 3406-E can be turned up from 435 to 500 hp to 625 hp. If you go over 525 hp it will need new injectors and turbo to get to 625 hp.

And if he wanted to leave it, how long a life could he expect from the powerplant, assuming he's not horsing the #### out of it at every start and stop?
Just curious.
EDIT- I realize that every engine has a lifespan, but I was more or less curious how much pulling your could expect out of a 3406 assuming it's not been ran by a cowboy. -
KW apparently sold the truck with 435hp new. You either need to see what the seller did to turn it up to 500 or run the engine serial by a CAT shop to double check KW's numbers. After that, then you are only left with running it on a dyno. Last I knew that was around $250.

Dyno it. Also keep in mind that the transmission and drive line will limit the amount of torque and horsepower you can set engine up too. Does it have a light duty trans or heavy duty trans?. You can get the model # of trans like a 10b or 10c ratio set etc. Not sure what trans you have just giving an example, look up max torque rating trans will handle. Most fleet trk's have a lighter duty drive line. Than an o/o would spec

A lifetime, of course even with good drivers sometimes parts fail so it's a loaded question but I think you realize that. We bought a 99 379 with a 2ws 550, 18 speed b ratio and 3.36 rears brand new. I drove it nearly every mile. Sold it in 2011 because the offers were becoming to much to resist. It just broke a million miles I put one set of injectors in it, one clutch, normal suspension crap and that's it. As much as I love my 359 I wish I had it back. He won't sell it back or talk about itcabwrecker and DustyRoad Thank this.
