I ran Chicago from 2005 up to just a few months ago. As long as you stay on the major routes through town you're pretty much ok.
Listening to WBBM AM780 (highly recommended!) seemed like most guys got into trouble when they went off into the side streets. -
i read through this thread,, is there any place that sells low clearance maps of chicago like the one posted in the first post of this thread,,, I see the 45 page pdf,, but a map would be much easier,,, I emailed the city of chicago but no reply yet

M&E Enterprise (ph: 630-739-3811) used to sell Chicago viaduct maps. Don't know if they are still in business or not. My Chicago viaduct map is from 2001.

The picture is from the intersection of Ogden and Lake. I was going Northeast on Ogden, and the overpass runs over Lake Street. The sign says 13.2, but it's taller, you can go under it with a van. I did after I called 911, and the police officer told me the sign was wrong, and watched the clearance as I was moving under the overpass. There's enough clearance in both directions, I tested it today.

Sorry to say I’ve never been into anywhere in Chicago proper and seen the low clearances. Out in the burbs near O’hare quite few a times though. NYC I am very familiar with. Even did some minor damage to the tops of a couple pup trailers playing with a couple of rail overpasses I shouldn’t have been!
