Chill pads for laptops any body use them

It has a fan. All of them do, even the cheapo WalMart Everex ones. Most are just so quiet you can't hear them.


I used to work IT, and to be honest, the chill pad shows no noticed advantage on numerous benchmark tests than just making sure you don't block the cooling ports.

 

XPS M1730 here with all the bells and whistles, overclocked as far as it will go, and I use a Belkin Cushtop only and no problems with heat whatsoever. Google it if you are curious.

 

Here, give this a shot. It's worked well for me. Granted after finally losing a Gateway that had eaten 5, yea count 'em, 5 hard drives. I use this now and have recognized a marked difference. Notebook Cooler Pad with Three Built-in 60 mm Fans (Black)

 

Robert I use a couple of velcro strips to keep mine in place. My computer has a fan, but it gets sort of warm when sitting in my lap. I notice the keyboard of the computer and mouse area are much cooler. Without the chillpad it gets warm enough for my hands to sweat after a period of time.

 

That is the key, right there. Don't block the cooling ports! If you are setting your laptop on a bed, or any other type of soft surface, you may well have problems. I knew a guy that used to use a pillow on his lap, to set the laptop on, because it got "too hot" for him.????????????

I know it is called a laptop, but IRC, there have been studies that showed that setting it on your lap can lead to some problems, at least for guys that might want to have kids someday.

 

So does truck driving.

 

Keeping your Laptop cool is very important, The cooler the better, Unlike Desktop PCs that now have 120mm fans galore to keep them cool, Laptops generally have a small fan that is sped up or down depending on CPU Temperature. The problem is they don't speed up until the temperature is far higher than recomended because of the noise, this can shorten the life of the CPU, cause circuits to flex and over time crack the strips on the circuit board and other head related illnesses after three or 4 years of heating and cooling in a relatively short period of time. I recommend that you always use a cooling pad if possible. It will extend the life of your laptop, Prevent heat related problems like Circuit failures, Chip failures and lockups, prevents chip-creep, and keeps the entire unit cooler not just the CPU, it also cools the battery, The Hard Drive and the power supply area.

 

It is just a little small for my 17" laptop but you just have to center it. It does come with 4 USB ports on the back. I find it does keep my laptop a lot cooler.

Another note,, in trucks you should carry a can of air or use your air hose... but you should blow out the cooling fins under your laptop at least once a week... the fans create static and the dust will clog up your internal fans and fins on the laptop causing it to overheat..

I would NOT use an air hose. Only canned air. There is too much of a chance of blowing moisture out of a regular air compressor's air tanks. It only takes a few molecules to short out a motherboard.
