I have been for years. There is no way to know for sure on a lot of things. Can only assume where it came from based on how long or short it lasts. I try and shop in places that sell good quality products and avoid the china proud stores. It doesn't always matter cause sometimes there's nothing else available. If I have a choice between 2 parts with one having the famous china sticker and the other not stamped I'll choose the no stamp every time.
I guarantee you there's more than what we all realize on our trucks now. Truth be known the no stamp crap came from there as well. My point is I try to avoid it when I can and especially on something as vital as a turbo when I know there's better available.

To answer your question; NO. I have learned in my 30 yrs. in trucking, that you get exactly what you pay for. It does not matter what part of trucking you are talking about, parts, labor, dispatchers, mechanics, trucking companies in general. You will not get any more out of it than you put in it, kind of a pay me now or pay me later, and when you choose later it will cost more, you should probably figure on double so you are not surprised.

The price is a bit high for china made turbo but i am not sure what detroit dealer price is,try to compare it with MB or Scania,Man engines turbo, they are usually about 250$

on the quality, they are just fine since most so called out sourced parts comes from overseas, then get packaged in the so called FTZ (free Trade Zones in the US, and labled as made somewhere else legally.

While it's a simple answer for me: "NO!!!!" It goes beyond "made in China", every time you buy made in China you are supporting off shore manufacturing/economy. I realize it's impossible not to buy "made in China" but I do my best to support made in North America. As for the quality your entitled to your opinion, mine is that consistent quality built parts/equipment do not come from China. I do my best to support North American built parts and equipment. Yes OEM parts are being made in China and that doesn't enthral me either.

Look at it this way, if you owned a turbo charged airplane that you flew everyday, would put one of these on it?

What kind of motor is this for? I know of a couple people who have ran that identical turbo on a 7.3 power stroke. GT4294 journal bearing Chinese knock off of the Garrett. Both were absolutely amazed at how tough the turbo was. One truck was in the 550 hp range and the other was a couple horse over 600. The turbo lasted a good while on both trucks before it went out. If I was you, I would look into a borg warner turbo that can swap directly. I'm pretty sure if you have a detroit, holset does not make a replacement for the Garrett.
