I currently have 4 pts and 1 preventable accident, I don't have speeding but my one moving violation was following too closely which was from the accident, and I am Leaving tomorrow afternoon for Stevens School.

Can't hurt to give them a try.

Well isn't the points in his POV? What would that matter if he is just getting his CDL? I don't know if they follow or not... Thanks.

Hi chompi, I wish I could help you out bud like you have helped so many of us here. I don't know of any owner operators at all sorry. I joined my company fresh out of school and didn't get a chance to even shop around lol. Best decision ever with my company though, must have been luck.

I'm guessing he has already tried this, but doesn't his school have local contacts? I know where I went to school, they not only worked with the megas to get students placed, but they worked with some small local companies as well.

Covenant took me last year with a fair number of points. Crap company, but at least it's a foot in the door.

Many have given some suggestions, and mine will be:

Try any and ALL of the local LTL companies for dock work/yardman/fueler.

Try Craig's List, (it's how I got my sweet gig)

There is also his/your state unemployment office which WILL HAVE job listings.

Try a company called Nova Services, Inc (home location is in Maryland, they go and drop/hook trailers at the various stores like Lowe's, Home Depot) and pick up the used appliances and take them back to the terminal for proper disposal/recycling. "up here" they pay $16.00 and are always hiring. (in fact, TRY Home Depot/Lowes, Mmenards, for home delivery)

Are there any grocery store warehouses like, "Piggly-Wiggly, Food Lion, etc, in your area..??

There is also the local trash haulers like, Waste Management, BFI, and he can do a local residential route or the containers.

Try the port area for container work..

There are options, he's just gotta go pound the pavement.

And as you know, I would say, the school SHOULD HAVE warned him about his driving record. Typical "let's take your money now, worry about it later".

Thanks to all! Lots of good input!

Gizmo he actually confronted the recruiter before hand and told him about his record and the recruiter told him it wouldn't be a problem! You know how that goes.

He has a local gig right now but its driving a box truck for $10hr. Those are the sweet local wages here in Florida! He has his heart set on going over the road though.

Thanks again to all who posted! I will have him shoot some apps out to the suggested companies.
