I have LS agents call me with load offer. At this point, i know they need it covered and they will almost always offer more money. I ask them for the info and figure out the mileage. Rate adjusts to weight and other circumstances.

I had an agent call me with a load offer Thursday for a Hazmat load out of Los Angeles going to Odessa, TX. Rate was at $3.05 mile for 42,000#. I told them i had already lined up a load and they went to ask me if that was a good rate?? And a few questions about it. I tend to get this often from them and try to help them (really other drivers) out. I went on to explain that a hazmat load is a tricky thing to cover due to insurances and proper hauling authorities. PLUS it was going to a dead freight area, so the rate should be a bit higher. He then asked me "what rate would be acceptable to you" and I told them to bump it to $4 mile and I'm sure it will get covered...... well, that agent called me the next day and thanked me. he was able to get it covered at the rate i suggested with no problems. Told me to call him whenever I needed a load and he'd see what he could come up with.

Are you saying that a broker actually asked you advice on how they could do their job better???

That leaves me scratching my head...or maybe I'm missing something?
