We bid our runs twice a year, the new bid just started a few weeks ago. Our bid system works like this - we pick the schedule and then select the individual daily runs and start times. The problem is that when the senior guys bounce around on their start times because they don't like a specific run. In turn the junior guys then aren't left with any choice BUT to have different start times. I've had a steady schedule since April (our summer bid lasts 7 months and the winter bid lasts 5), I start one day at 5:00am, one at 2:30am, and 3 days at 2:00am. Not too bad for start times, I suppose. But my days off suck, Wednesday and Thursday. But the money IS outstanding, in my opinion anyway.

I stopped updating because it didn't appear many folks were interested. Lol.

Decided to give another update on my experience.

First, I'm still employed here. And I'm on track to make around 80k this year (give or take, depends on how much extra I decide to work). They've added several additional people to the seniority list and I hear they're pursuing more business. Cool.

We just recently started a new bid and I have had Sunday and Wednesday off for the last 6 months or so. My start times vary, 3 3:00am, a 1:00am, and a 5:00am. Not too shabby. I generally work one of my off days because the $$$ is so dang good.

Still not touching much freight unless some cases don't fit through the trailer or store doors. Still getting paid for every minute (and then some) of work. All in all, very happy here. Let's hope it lasts another 20 years or so!

The only time I ever willingly worked with split days off, was when I was working a job that I hated! The ONLY thing that made that job bearable was the fact that I never had to work more than 3 days without being off a day. Well, that and my motorcycle!

Split days off stink, but my only alternative to get consecutive days was working all weekend. I took the lesser of 2 evils, in my opinion anyway. Plus, I get to ride the Harley on Sunday!

I like my split days off. Get home early saturday morning around 7-10am and don't go back out again until monday night at 11pm. Get back wednesday around noon time and go back out at 12am the start of friday. Doing around 1300 a week average. Not too bad if you ask me for doing only 2 runs a week. only downside is unlike you I fingerprint every item on that trailer but its usually under a 1000 cases and 10 stops one run and 11 on the other.

Might not be the best money for how hard I work but I only have 8 months exp. A year and 2 months I'll be 23 and can pretty much go anywhere then
