The fact that you had empties in the cab means that you're lucky you didn't get an open container ticket in addition to the possession ticket.

Regardless of anything else, it is against federal regulations to possess alcohol in the cab of a CMV, and that's going to be really tough to overcome with recruiters and especially with insurance companies.

Nevertheless, I commend you for not driving with alcohol in your system, and I wish you luck in finding employment. You'll probably have a long row to hoe for the next year or two but, assuming you don't have any previous alcohol or drug charges, I don't think this will be the end of your career.

Come drive in Canada. Alcohol in the truck is legal. I asked the DOT at the scale if it was ok if I hauled duty free booze back and he couldn’t understand why I’d ask such a stupid question and I have always claimed it at the border with no issues.
