Cities or towns a trucker might consider living in and building a life?

Thank you. The people in the UP are nicer yet. Minnesota, okay, except on the roads, Iowa, central Ill. Indiana, but the all time best people were in Ohio. I used to pick up LTL at all these little mom and pop cheese outfits in Wisconsin, all gone now. Having been in Colorado almost 6 years, I've found, Colorado is for losers. Not financial losers, but people that have money from wherever, and have run out of things to do, and migrate to Colorado to pixx it away. Lonely people that feel the world revolves around them, for the most part. I'm going back to the upper midwest, and let the world go where it may.

I sold my car when I was living in the truck

I have always paid cash for everything my car was a paid for beater 78 Firebird that used a quart of oil every 80 miles but the insurance was expensive .

I got another car later , a 4wd pickup , after I bought 7 acres with an entrance road that had not been maintained in years .

 

You won't leave Colorado and you know it. Move to Las Vegas and enjoy the year round good weather. Lots of nice apartments in retirement communities.

Ah so, wise one, I am indeed leaving Colomorado,, but not until Spring. To be clear, I want to be FURTHER away from places like Vegas, or Denver, or any of the other ####holes of America. Did I tell you of my travels through KC? Since I don't have to be anywhere, I hope it snows over the roof of my Upper Michigan home. Crime goes way down in the winter, you know. I look at places like Vegas, and think year 'round crime.

 

I'm gonna throw a vote in for SD (but NOT because of Gov. Kristi's silly behind). And I say this as one who just finished rebuilding his life in SD while trucking over the road. Ain't much up there, but that also limits the distractions.

Pick Sioux Falls or Rapid City. Sioux Falls puts you closer to the middle of the nation and if you really want it, Minneapolis/St. Paul is four hours east/northeast (and Omaha barely three hours south). The major con, aside from Sioux Falls (and South Dakota as a whole) being isolated, is the six months of winter...there's no way around it. You WILL get snowed on. But the major pro to SD, aside from it being super peaceful (which helped me tremendously), is the super-light tax burden overall, AND how easy it is to obtain SD residency. I'd recommend it to anyone.
