all right batman 13k truck 11k trailor- gcvw under 26k. Trailer is over 10k- class a license required.
No, that vehicle does not fit the criteria for a class A CDL. The combined GVWR needs to be higher than 26,000 LBS provided the trailer being towed wieghs more than 10k LBS GVW.
In CA it is....my Class A CDL Test was taken in a Freightliner FL60 with a bumper pull car trailer, didn't even have airbrakes on the trailer, the power unit did. Take a look at the websites below: www.centralvalleyCDL.com www.jiffystruckrental.com I went with Jiffys, but had Sue from Central Valley as my trainer before she started Central Valley on her own. Both of these rental places have their trucks on the road daily around here, drivers passing.
States cannot make changes to federal laws. The FL60 has a GVWR of around 26k. Throw in a 1k GVW trailer and you have a class A vehicle. It doesn't need to have airbrakes. You'll just have a airbrake restriction on your class A because the vehicle you took the road test in wasn't equipped.
Some of the statements on this thread are way the hell off... A FL60 with a GVWR of 26K, pulling a 1K trailer is not a CDL A vehicle. Read the definitions of commercial vehicle class; it's a federally uniform standard. That truck shouldn't have been used in a CDL A road test.
Yeah, it is a class A vehicle. The combined GVWR is over 26,000 LBS. Don't believe me? Drive one onto a scale with no class A CDL and watch how quickly you get placed OOS. The trailer weight by itself does not make a difference. You can pull a 11k GVW trailer with a Pinto on a class C license. The combination vehicle needs to have a GVW of 26,000 LBS or more.... Period.
