Get you a class A with no restrictions. Then you can drive your 1-ton truck, but also have many more options when you want to change jobs.

I’d say beg, steal, or borrow a class 8 tractor/trailer to take your test in. Otherwise you are going to have a air-brake and auto restriction on your license.
If you ever decide you want to move up to a bigger truck later, and you will, you’ll have to take the test all over again.clausland and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Would you be able to take it in a Class B manual with air brakes to lift those restrictions?

The old days of getting your class 1, er A, in a 1 ton dually and then driving big trucks are loong gone. Restrictions are now at every level, and getting more restricted every year.
If all you are ever planning on doing is driving a 1 ton GN, then go for it, but if it was me, I'd do like the other guys are trying to tell you, take it only once in a class 8 tandem w/man trans....
