Thanks for the advice and wishing me well. I'll keep you posted on what happens after I get my cdl license and what kind of a job I end up with.

I was watching a class b haz-mat stake truck getting pulled by highway patrol CDL cop over on I-480 a couple days ago.

It was placarded with two different diamond signs.

I came back a few minutes later and they were gone.

Try going to your local Dept of Labor Unemployment office.
They did allocate federal funding (grants, no payback required) called WIA (Workforce Investment Act).
There are thousands of ppl who have gotten WIA grants (and CDLs), which pay directly to approved CDL trucking schools.

You must meet certain criteria to be approved, but nothing far out of the ordinary.
The paperwork process and approval does take some time., and availability of grant money varies by location & month to month.
But it is very much worth it, to check it out.

Thanks but if I can get my cdl class b with a couple of endorsements I'll be just as well off without having to go to cdl training. You see I don't want a otr job where I'll be gone a week or two at a time. I want a local job where I'll be home each night with my weekends off and benefits. All I'm going to have to do is pass my written tests, then go to my one day drive training course so I'll know what to expect on my driving test, (but I won't be testing with a trailer, just the tractor.) And I'll also memorize the pre-trip inspection so I'll know how to do that before the drive test, and then, ( with some luck), I'll get my cdl class b with endorsements so that I won't be limited on what kind of job I can get.

Whatever you chose is fine, however I think that you think once you get the Class B license in your wallet, that you then fully qualify for any Class B job.
The painful reality is... the employer realizes the license and endorsements are easily obtained, and that's just the most basic requirement.
What mainly matters to the employer is how much actual Class B driving experience you have.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but just tellin you like it is, in real life job hiring terms.
You may luck-up upon a small company that will give you a starting "break", but the majority will want at least 6 months to a year (at minimum) B class driving experience.
Sometimes, their insurance company will require a certain experience level, for them to consider hiring.
I do sincerely wish you luck in finding that first job.

Well, you have to start somewhere! I fully realize the realities of trying to be hired for the first time in the trucking business. Even those that have completed a full cdl training course at a training school have a hard time finding something for the first time as I've read. I know I will not get the kind of job I want for the first time looking, but when I do get a job somewhere, I can start building up my experience and after some time has gone by, I can continue to look around for a better job after I've got some experience down my belt. It'll be tough going in the beginning. Heck, I don't even have my cdl license yet and I know that's not going to be an easy task! Thanks for wishing me luck because I think I'll need a lot of it.
