    Yes I have access to a tandem pup trailer that I can use. The only thing I've recently thought of as to why a pup is legal and not our 30 ton tag is the position of the axles. Pups have the axles more rearward then a tag trailer so turning it is a bit more of a pita?

    Doubt you can use a pup trailer, you must have a fifth wheel hitch and 45 foot trailer with air brakes for the test!

    I wish i still had the paper they hand out, it said pups were allowed, sure of it.
    Shane, you should get someone to run into the road test office and ask for the class A equipment requirement page, just explain your going to upgrade to an A and want to know the requirements to get the full A. I'd go get ya one but i'm dayshift. It explained very well what ya needed for a truck and trailer.

    Bikerboy is right. If you show up for your road test in anything less than the fifth wheel hitch and 45' trailer with airbrakes for your full A-class licence road test, the MTO may either turn you away OR you will get the A-class Restricted (AR) licence.

    Thems the rules.

    5. What combination of vehicles should I bring in for a road test in order to receive a full Class A licence?

    In order to receive a full Class A licence, applicants must bring a tractor-trailer for the road test that has all the following:
    • A tractor equipped with manual transmission;
    • A fifth wheel coupling;
    • A single trailer having an overall length of 45 feet; and,
    • A full air brake system on both the tractor and the trailer.
