By the way I was serious about getting one of those RV trucks, I told my wife that we would get one of those, pull my 40' hopper behind it. The hopper would basically pay for our fuel to go on little trucker vacations. I know that I won't be able to pull as much weight, but at that point I won't care. It beats spending $200k for an RV that can't do any work.

i think i would pick something other than a hopper to pull, hopper is almost always paid by how much weight you load.

Yeah, I know but it is only 40', and I really love all the chicken lights. Remember I said this was going to be my vacation truck, so the weight is not going to be an issue. The loads will still be paying very well, just not as well as they do with my current trucks.

Here is an example: For 1000 miles

If the load pays $100 per ton right now and I can get 26 tons on: $2600.00

With my vacation truck I can get 23 tons on: $2300.00

If I was running my business this way that would be stupid. But for a truck that I only plan on using as an RV it is pretty smart. My friend has an RV that he paid 225K for, it is really nice, gets around 8.5 mpg and breaks down quite a bit. I can get a used RV Tractor (Stretch Rig) for around $75K and use it with the hopper to travel around the country with my wife, rent a car locally when I am done unloading, and I will bet you that I am money ahead vs. my friend. What do you think?

    225k vs 75k? You're way ahead.

Why pull a trailer at all? Put a 12' drom deck and snatch up expedite/LTL loads.

Did not think about that one, thanks. I will look into that option before I get the RV truck.

I can only imagine the dirty looks I'd get if I said we gotta go grab a load to cover our fuel to the beach. She might even reply, without a hint of humor, "we're just gonna deadhead there. Did you really just try to work on our vacation?" Hahahahahaha!!!

Why buy a new motor coach? Buy a used one. my buddy just picked up a 45 foot 500 hp Cummins Newmar pusher with 4 slides and 30 thousand miles for 90 grand.

all the fun of RVing is relaxing in the parks and getting to meet new friends in them.

They aint going to let your RV semi in a park,

My wife is used to me working while on vacation. I pack up the computer, laser printer, and we roll, she knows that the operators put the bread on our table as well as theirs. I tried to hire somebody to run my office, but they could not hack it, they said the drivers were to rough on them, they did not want to start work at 07:00 in the morning, the list goes on and on. Until I find somebody competent to replace me, I guess I am stuck with it.

My wife is from Tennessee and we both believe that if we can get paid while on vacation all the more better. We are getting ready to head to D.C. she has never been there, I have only been there with the truck or on Army meetings, so I have never gotten to take the time and see our capitol up close without running around avoiding the traffic, or being rushed to meetings. I think it is one thing to just drive through it an entirely different thing to observe it up close (so I am hoping). I figure that I better go see it while it still stands for freedom, in the future the way things are going it may not.
