I'm hoping one day people will laugh at the fact that some people were arrested for something like cannabis. But until that day, I'm just hoping.
Might want to look into construction work cause they might have a water truck or need equipment moved. Small flatbed company, buddy got hired in with a domestic violence on his record he sat down with his boss and said he messed up. Look for a owner operator with 1-2 trucks talk to him let him know and he might give you a chance. Concrete driver might be a start then pull there end dumps when you move up, buddy got his start there with no exp and a very old felony. Might not be Tractor Trailer to start but it's something. He's now pulling gravel trucks Tractor trailer. This will all give you work exp using a CDL which will build a rapport for someone like a big carrier to give you a chance.
Besides your probation your age and experience is going to be a hurdle too! Forgot about the mega-carriers they aren't going to touch you. You will have to find a small mom and pop company or something like operating and hauling heavy equipment or dump truck or coal truck etc... I guess because of your probation you can't leave the state either right? So start looking local. Try Craigslist. Good luck!
Yes I'm allowed to leave the state and I basically live on Craigslist. I had CRST call me this morning and said they're wanting to give me a chance so everyone keep your fingers crossed!!!! They seen my resume on Craigslist that describes my legal trouble and all and they still called me.
Well the one recruiter from CRST called and said he could hire me and wanted to ship me out next Monday, then another guy called me back and literally said "there is no way in hell we could hire you, misdemeanors have to be 15 years old or more". Back to the wild goose chase!
Ya, you have to be careful with those mega-carriers! Those recruiters will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to show for orientation so they can get paid. No matter if you get sent home an hour later, at your cost! Get it in writing if you are going to do that! I can almost guarantee that no mega-carrier is going to hire you so be weary! Are you good with horses? Lot of horse hauling in your area! Should be a lot of coal mine work out there too. Find an owner operator with a few rock trucks that wants a cheap driver. You can make really good money doing that getting paid percentage. Nice too, no waiting for a dock! Just a bucket loader!
That sounds like a good idea, I'm going to go thru the phone book and yellow pages tomorrow and start calling all these local companies and see what they have to say.
Great idea, but this is 2012, try this man! http://www.truckdrivercentral.com/Truckingcostate/KYtdc.html This will help you find the mom and pop companies and the good ol' smaller outfits.
Lot of companies that are missing on that list. Current company i work for isn't even listed and they've been in business 60 years
