I saw on the internet that some people are cleaning their own dpf filters with a pressure washer by carefully spraying preferably heated water in the direction the exhaust would flow into the dpf then out the exhaust. Also I believe I would need a computer to reset the truck after doing the work and I don't have one. I asked Freightliner about it and they were clueless. But they said that I would need to reset the computer. ECM? Anyone have their own diagnostic computer for reading codes and resetting the engine light and other repairs? I was thinking about doing this on my truck. It is a cummins isx engine made in 2012. Has anyone cleaned their own before? Thank you for any feedback
I saw it done on youtube...the guy was funny, personalizing his filter and talking to it like a human being.
Probably better than listening to some salesman telling you how you're engine will run like new if you get it cleaned in his fancy machine. I'm not sold that cleaning is worth the time or effort. Only experience was spending 1k and getting a 'cummins reman,' the thing was clogged worse than the original I took off.
oh yea! Has anyone ever punched holes in their canister? I'm sure you have to reset the ecm after. haha man its just no fun anymore is it.
Well we cant talk about THAT kind of stuff on the forum I believe. But I think you know what I'm talking about! Lol!
I know one guy who once a year removes canisters on his 3 Pete’s pressure washes the filter and reinstalls with new gaskets .. he swears they go the year without codes .. he was told by a cummmins shop that they no longer clean them properly because they shortened the cleaning time due to a few shops burning down while cleaning dpf filters in the long burn process .. guy told him to pressure wash them and it’s been working well for 3 years now apparently
