I don't know the history of this. I saw it at the truck shop where I go for dyno testing.

Pushbroom: Is there a reason for no counter weights? Pistons must be featherweight?

Less rotating mass. Flywheel is a bit heavier to make up for it. Paccars rev quick because of it

I thought the purpose of the counterweight is to offset the weight of the swinging rods and up and down motion of the pistons?

Well considering they have been doing it for quite a while with no issues.....
More then one way to skin a cat.

If you really wanna get worked up the new camshafts are hollow tubes with pressed on lobes:)

SDP that had a recent rebuild. Determined there was an abnormally in the rod which fractured in two starting from the oil feed hole. New long block and back together.

Seeing many cam failures up your neck of the woods on the EPA 17 MX13? Seems like ones I have heard are mainly the brown package haulers that run long oil drain intervals. Lower oil pressure and increase oil temp was bound to give issues. Glad to see with oil filter cap campaign includes a lower temp oil thermostat.

None at my branch, we also preach shorter oil drain times then the reccomended( which I think are crazy)
I think we had a few at some of our other locations. Not really as big of a deal as it first was led to be.
