After getting oil pan off found cam and lifter roller were okay. Took about an hour of finesse, but lifter is out.
Now the chore of trying to see if I can't polish the lifter bore in the block.
Truck came in Thursday night with a audible mis-fire and CEL. Couple codes for #5 low torque contribution and #4 high contribution. Evaluate cylinder performance test showed weak #5 cylinder. Felt the pump to injector pipe and had no pulse. Ran crankcase rotation monitor recording for five minutes and reviewed and #2 was very weak. Ordered injectors for #2 and #5 and pump for #5.
Knew something wasn't good when I loosened up pump bolts and it didn't want to spring up!pushbroom, AModelCat, daf105paccar and 1 other person Thank this. -
I see the lifter bolt got hit hard. Hope you can save it with a ball hone.
I wouldnt be surprised if your results from #2 were just shadowing due to companion cylinder was broke.pushbroom, Shawn2130, daf105paccar and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was leaning that way during T/S too, but acceleration on #2 stayed a steady -25 on crankshaft overview and # 5 was only slightly lower than the others @ idle. The miss was stronger when raising RPM like two cylinders were weak and with #4 showing high contribution codes and figured best to replace #2 injector also.

I saved this bore last year withe a small cylinder hone. It was gouged badly where the pin slid out. Grooves into the bore don't matter as much as getting the high spots knocked down. If the alternative is a block there isnt too much too loose.

Not as smashed up as some of the other things in this thread, but expensive nevertheless.
871 ISX with intermittent throttle issues. Correct repair is new harness and ecm, however I was able to somewhat clean the ecm and replace some of the worse pins. Packed it full of dielectric and haven't seen it back since.

Nasty! Seen a few machines lose the DEF injector, which pumps DEF through the harness and down to the ECM pins. That DEF is nasty stuff on wiring.

Yep, got it honed with 1 3/4" ball hone and hand polished it some with Ultra fine scotch Brite pad. Slides up and down like brand new. Really only grooved where anti-rotate pin was sheared. I think it took me more time to remove to oil pan gasket, man they are a pain! New lifter and pin won't be to dealer til tommorow, but will miss delivery truck so I won't see it til Wednesday afternoon.650cat425, daf105paccar, pushbroom and 2 others Thank this.
