Your spot on!!! In training they told us SRT was based on an engineer completing the compressor R and R. I asked if that was in a short hood chassis or test stand.

Exactly how Caterpillar does it. Every tool laid out, every specialty tool needed and a brand new machine.

Now add in the real world:

    -Its filthy.
    -Bolts are rusty.
-Some ###hat didn't put the specialty tool away in the right spot or broke it.
-Its been a year since you last seen that particular model, 3 since you actually performed said task on that model.

Or the speciality tool is priced outrageously and you have to make it.

Hey, some of the best tools are home made. But I totally agree some of the pricing on this stuff is rediculous, and garbage too boot. Any idiot can take a socket and weld it to a pogostick and charge 1000's of dollars for it. We have tons of worthless manditory tools that have never been touched and do nothing but collect dust, simply bacause theres a faster way, or they just plain arnt needed.

The MX injector slide hammer is just one of those many tools.
