Just think about it gave that vomit taste.

Always got the nasty ones, like a glitter factory. But one night slipped and fell rear first in a pan of burnt gear lube. Showered and changed at the shop, again at home. GF of the time made me sleep on a couch for 3 days. Least she knew I was not running around on her.

Actually, fluid didn't smell that bad and was reported it didn't look that bad or contain hardly any metal on magnet when changed that evening. Synthetic gear oil is the only way to go and we have using new vs reman third members in all units which hold up better IMHO. I know I have changed both third members in this particular truck at least twice with last being genuine new meritor, but it is a 99 FLD six axle dump with 40K 4.63 ratio RT-40-145 with 1.25 million on the odometer (and never been over 150 air miles from shop).

Yep, it's a Buckeye special. Bought them off an older gentleman that drove one and brother in law drove other. They just hauled stock. Had 600,000 on them when we bought them and mostly original. Put some company cowboys in them and poor things started the harsh life. Put a clutch in one of them right @ 850,000 miles and it was the original factory Sachs clutch. Amazing what a good driver can do.

In all my time spent fixing stuff I think today was the first time I ever used a hone.

Must have tools, and I prefer the ball hones made by BRM over solid stones. Pricier, but easier to use. Successful salvage jobs always give me a lot of satisfaction. It helps being hourly, put I always enjoy hand reaming kingpin bushings. Nothing better than the feel of a reamed bushing that is way tighter than the standard no ream ones from factory these days.

I did miss reading and learning from you guys. Nice to be around folks with same truck passion, but getting a different way of looking at things. Besides the hectic of daily life, I am starting to work on my old KW and plan on starting a thread soon.

I was rebuilding a rock breaker today that needed a little cleanup inside the bore. Ball hone worked like a hot dam n.

I finally got my firewall out. Currently sitting on a drafting table. Should have it cut and bent next week.

I was just trying to change a wheel seal. An innocent task. Don't underestimate a 3/4" Harbor Freight gun with legit half inch air.
